So you decided to jump in and buy yourself a boat. Congratulations on your decision but before your give them a bag full of cash there are a few things you must do. A proper inspection of the various components and parts of the boat will save you from many hassles, multiple repairs and wasted money.

When Buying Used Boats, always consider the source of the boat or the parties involved. If you buy a boat from a private party it usually will not come with any type of guarantee or warranty. Buying a boat from a reputable boat dealer typically will come with a warranty and they might even service it for free for a period of time. If you buy a used boat from an online auction site such as Ebay, always make sure that the seller has excellent feedback above 96%.

Properly inspecting the boat is the number one way to safeguard your hard earned money. First remember that this is a used boat and will have some normal wear and tear involved. Look it over carefully and start inspecting the Hull. Look for different colored paint or recently new paint. Look for signs of previous accidents. If you find an area on the hull which looks different than the rest, inspect it more carefully. The best way is by listening carefully as you tap it lightly with a small rubber hammer. What you are listening for is anything which sounds different than the normal solid sound.

Used Boat Motors can either be in very good condition or some can end up being real lemons. Ask the seller if they have any invoices or a record of the boat repairs done on the engine. The best way to test the boat motor is to start it up and hopefully drive the boat around a little. Let the throttle out and see how it responds. While the engine is shutoff do a propeller test by turning it. When turning the propeller, what you are looking for is any type of warping or wobbling. Visually inspect the propeller for any gashes, nicks or chips. Look for any oil or fluid leaks around the gaskets. Look at the mounts on the engine to see if they are in good condition or broken. Inspect any hoses or belts and look to see if they are dried, cracked or worn out. If you are not mechanically inclined then it is best to have a mechanic look the engine over and do a compression check.

Once you have inspected the main parts of the boat the next thing is to inspect the secondary parts. Check any bolted areas or outlets for problems or rust. Search around the cabin areas and open all the cabinets. Look over the upholstery to see the condition of it and if the stitches are intact. Look for any ripped, worn out or mildewed upholstery. If you find several problems or do not feel comfortable with something than maybe you should pass on it and search for another boat.

When buying a large priced item such as a car or a boat, make sure to properly inspect the areas which receive the most wear and tear. The hull, engine and other components must be looked over and tested. A boat will be one of the most expensive purchases you will make so do not be afraid to take your time. Buying a boat from a reputable seller and properly inspecting it will not only save you from needless repairs but will keep you from being stranded on the water.

Ask yourself two basic questions before you do your boat-buying research. First, what will you be fishing for? Are you looking for a quiet sunrise break on the lake? Or do you want to test your skill on the high seas? Second, when and where will you do your fishing? That quick sunrise fishing trip at the lake will take little more than a row boat or raft. But the serious deep sea fishing trip requires a sturdy dependable vessel with ample safety features.
Dealers of Ranger boats talk about a 5-star advantage that applies to all boats, no matter who manufactures them. The five points are quality, performance, innovation, safety, and value. What materials will offer you quality and value? Is your candidate boat made of plastic, metal, or fiberglass. Does it have a heavy-duty bilge pump and heavy-duty wiring? Will it withstand stormy seas?
Here are a few specifics to consider when buying a boat. These are just a sample of the factors that can make the difference between an enjoyable and successful fishing trip and a heartache. Be sure to do more research. Visit boat dealers and talk to people who already own their own boat. Buying a boat can be an expensive proposition. Make sure you are well-educated so that your decision is one you don’t regret.
How will you tow your new boat?
Your tow vehicle will dictate some options when you’re buying a boat. Be sure it has the proper power to get the job done. Generally, a larger boat may require a vehicle that will pull up to 3500 pounds, especially where you have to travel hills and mountains. A small fishing boat, like a kayak or inflatable raft, may need a special rack for your car top. Before you go shopping, be sure you have the correct equipment to transport your new boat.
What materials are appropriate for your fishing needs?
In smaller lakes where there aren’t big waves, a light aluminum may be perfect. Aluminum is more forgiving of bumps and bangs than fiberglass or wood. It’s also less expensive. A light metal boat or inflatable raft will be best for early mornings on the lake, but they won’t last in the bay. For heavier seas, you’ll need more durable materials, a sturdier craft, and a powerful motor.
Should you choose a new or second-hand boat?
Second-hand boats are cheaper and hold their value longer since they’ve already depreciated. You’re more likely to get a dependable, economical deal with smaller boats that don’t have a lot of equipment or features. But if you’re investing in a larger boat with lots of features, you’ll want the warranty that comes when you’re buying a new boat. First-time buyers may be better off buying a boat from a dealer. Once you have some experience owning and operating your own boat, you’ll be in a better position to judge the value of a used boat. At the same time, if you’re buying a boat for long trips or high-sea fishing, be prepared to spend thousands, or tens of thousands, to get a good vessel. It all depends on how you feel about safety and dependability. Take your chances and save money or spend the bucks and be secure. It’s all up to your adventurous nature.
How does the boat handle?
As a first-timer, you may not know what to look for in handling when you’re buying a boat. This is where the experience of other boaters may prove extremely valuable to you. But think about how easily you’ll be able to launch and retrieve the boat from a ramp. Will you be able to quickly attach it for towing? How much labor are you willing to invest to move your new boat around? And if you’re buying a boat with some power, you’ll need to understand how well it maneuvers in the water. Boats aren’t as easy to test drive as automobiles, so you’ll need to be certain you can handle a high-powered fishing boat.
Buying a boat is an exciting adventure. You’re buying much more than a water craft. You’re buying years of pleasurable fishing experiences. It might be tempting to rush into your purchase, buying a boat that appeals to your taste. But slow down and take care that your new boat meets your needs. We can’t stress enough how important it will be to do your homework.
Surf the internet to learn about boats, to find reviews, to listen in on forums and blogs, and to find out what models and brands have the best reputations. Talk to other boaters, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions at dealerships. A good dealer will be more than willing to invest the time to make sure you’re an educated buyer.

We had a few snowflakes last week that danced in on a frigid Canadian cold front that froze most of the USA. The sight of a few snowflakes in my backyard had me longing to head for the beach! But since it’s still cold on most of the sandy shores in my area, I did the next best thing. I went to a huge boat show last weekend and I took my wife; wanting to share something special with her. Big mistake!

It is a fisherman’s dream to be surrounded by every type of fishing boat imaginable. Even if you’re not one who likes to put a hook in the water, take a friend with you and you will have a lot of fun, if for no other reason than to shake your head and grimace at the prices involved in some of the water craft on display.

If however, you are a real angler, and enjoy any kind of fresh water fishing, there is a boat for you no matter what your preference. There are Bass boats, Jon boats, dinghies, flat bottom boats, inflatable boats, pontoon boats and boats that look so ridiculous that it questions why they should even be allowed on the water.

Fishing is supposed to be fun. It is always enjoyable for me because I don’t purposely make an effort to fish exclusively for bass; therefore I don’t really need a high tech, super powerful bass boat. By nature I’m a lazy man and fishing for largemouth bass or even smallmouth bass seems too much like work, so I prefer a simpler kind of fishing vessel. Recreational projects that require more than minimum effort and are expensive to pursue, are generally erased from my list of things I like to do.

I was really not in the market for a new boat, but the more I wandered down the aisles, enthralled by the latest in boating technology, the more my old boat seemed like a relic! Unfortunately my wife was not experiencing the same vibrations that had me salivating as I saw a beautiful 21foot fishing craft with everything a fisherman could want.

My days of investing a lot of money is a boat are gone. I read somewhere that a boat is a hole in the water in which you throw your money. I’ve had several boats and I know that statement to be true. This one that I was drooling over only cost $48, 582.00. My wife wasn’t nearly as cheerful after seeing that price tag.

If spending an enormous amount of money on something that will cart you around the river fast, then some of the big bass boats that have entered the market are just what you need to put a big dent in your wallet! Some of the vessels that will take you up and down the river in search of the elusive bass hit the ceiling at well over $50,000.00! At a dollar a pound for fish, I would have to catch 50,000 fish for that boat to be economically feasible!

Not really wanting a new boat, I decided to test the boat buying waters by trying to explain to my wife why that new bathroom was just going to have to wait for a few years. Not overly impressed by my argument that a new fishing craft would greatly improve my mental health, she replied that after we complete her bathroom project, we could possibly consider a boat the whole family, including grandkids would enjoy; a pontoon boat.

A boat that will comfortably seat six or more people is not my idea of an ideal fishing craft. You can’t zip down the river at 50 miles per hour on a houseboat wanna be! It was a good thing that I wasn’t really serious about boat shopping. No matter what style of boat that catches your eye, it’s not likely your spouse will understand its importance, especially after she recovers from sticker shock!

As boat shows go, this one was fantastic! In addition to having just about every kind of boat known to man, this one had rows and rows of boating accessories that were designed to capture the heart of every red-blooded American boatman.

Besides GPS systems, fish finders, radar, VHF radios, audio systems, there were fresh water fishing reels, fresh water rods, tackle, as well as salt water rods and reels of every brand. This was a little confusing for me because the nearest salt water is 7 hours away.

Last weekend at the boat show was a welcomed relief from the stranglehold this winter has had on most of us. When arenas and civic centers are packed with boats, we know that spring is fast approaching!

If you think a single person pontoon boat might be ideal for your next fishing trip then read this article. A single person pontoon boat is a personal boat that has one or two seats attached to inflatable pontoons. Some high quality single person pontoon boats have platforms that enable an adult to stand up. This can be an ideal boat for a fly fisherman.
A single person pontoon boat is perfect for photographers, fishermen, hunters, outdoor enthusiasts or anyone who likes to float down a river. A one man pontoon boat is an efficient way to fish a lake.
One of the best ways to enjoy fishing is through in a single person pontoon boat. Whether you prefer fishing on rivers, lakes, streams or ponds, a single person pontoon boat is an ideal way to fish any body of water.
A single person pontoon boat is simply one or two seats mounted on a platform, between two inflatable pontoons. This makes it very comfortable and extremely maneuverable.
Because of this maneuverability, single person pontoon boats can go into parts of a river that larger boats can’t reach. Because they are extremely light if you encounter debris or fallen trees you can simply lift your boat over the obstacle and keep going. With the help of a personal pontoon boat, the areas that you can fish are almost endless and few areas will be out of your reach.
Getting on and off a one-man pontoon boat is easy, too. Unlike a canoe where you have to pull over and walk to the front of the boat or in the case of a kayak, extricate yourself from inside the boat in order to get out, with an inflatable pontoon boat you simply pull over and step off. A single person pontoon boat is much more convenient than either a canoe or a kayak.
Whether your aim is fishing, photography, exploring or just relaxing, a one-man pontoon boat may ideally suit your purpose. Wear your waders when you go fishing and when you come to a likely stretch of water simply pull over, step off your boat, and fish the stretch. It’s as simple as that. Then, when you’re finished fishing, you simply get back on the boat and continue along the river.
A major feature of single person pontoon boats is how lightweight and transportable they are. They deflate to fit into the trunk of the car and are quickly inflated when you reach the lake or river where you want to fish.
Can you imagine being able to deflate your boat and store it in the trunk of your car, and then being able to simply reinflate it when you reach a choice fishing location? Then, when you’ve finished fishing, you simply deflate it again and store it until you next fishing trip. How good does that sound? No more towing trailers; no more waiting in line at the boat ramp. A single person inflatable pontoon boat is the answer to a fisherman’s prayers.
Give a single person pontoon boat a try on your favorite stretch of water and you won’t be disappointed. You’re likely to agree that it’s the only way to explore a river. And if you’d prefer not to paddle your boat you can always add a small motor.
Thanks for reading about Single Person Pontoon Boats.

Radio controlled boats are a fun and rewarding hobby, that could be ether relaxing or exhilarating depending on your needs. Best of all it doesn’t have to be very expensive. RC boats come in a wide variety of forms and types ranging from small and steady cruisers to lightning fact racers. You can either buy one already built or you can buy it in the kit form and assemble it yourself.

Buying a ready build radio controlled boat is by far the easiest option. But building your own boat can be much more satisfying. This decision is dependant on your reasons for taking up radio controlled boats as a hobby in the first place. It is easy to find all of your RC boat parts either on the internet or at your local RC hobby store. You may be worried about the amount of work involved or think that it will be to hard to get a good result, but in the end you will be glad that you put in the effort, after all this is a hobby and what’s the point in finishing it in 5 minutes? Anyway these RC boats come pretty comprehensive instructions that make it real simple to achieve a great result in next to no time.

The next decision you need to make is what type or radio controlled boat would you like.

Radio controlled boats are built in electric, nitro, and gas variants. Electric RC boats, Nitro RC boats and Gas

Electric are more popular because they are cheep and easier to run strait out of the box. Electric radio controlled boats come in a number of sizes, from the very small and slow pool toy RC boats to the very fast medium sized RC boat. The main problem with the electric boats is that as the batteries loose power the boat become slower.

Nitro boats utilize Nitro-Methane fuel which is very powerful and makes for a fast boat, but the main problems with Nitro powered radio controlled boats are that the are a little more complicated to run as you will need to use a special starter kit to get them going and the fuel is about 4 times the price of a gas boat.

Gas radio controlled boats run on regular car gas with oil combined in the fuel. Also known as 2 stoke fuel. These engines are larger than the other types and therefore need a larger hulled boat to accommodate the engine. With the larger hull comes some advantages such as a more stable and easier to handle craft and mixed with the cheaper fuel, makes the gas RC boat (in my opinion) the best of the three types of radio controlled boat.

Then there is the radio controlled sail boat.

The radio controlled sail boat is the ultimate RC boat if you are looking for relaxation or stress relief. The radio control is there to control the sails and the rudder and naturally the wind acts as the engine.
